Crunch time ... scrunch time

Comfort foods are the reprieve we have all resorted to at some point when under stress and duress and then like most nice things, there is the morning after guilt trip on the weighing scale.... The pressures of mundane life and the times we feel everything is going wrong and we need every ounce of support in everything around to tough it out through the patches of rough, are all aided and slightly alleviated by the small indulgences, the answers to those small cravings. Maybe, that is exactly what purpose they serve, what childlike pleasures are enjoyed thus are probably what we lead these lives for, all these struggles, so that ultimately, we can live in those very same dream castles in the seventh heavens we started so assiduously buliding when we were four. And the small nuggets that we keep gifting ourselves just help keep those goals in sight, so we never lose track of the big picture ...
....
... but of course, we still need to remind ourselves to search for that gym membership we put away.... cant go completely crazy u know :P

Sultan of grass

As rafael nadal is forced to endure the vagaries of the british summers and federer gets to enjoy the strawberries and cream under the cloudy skies awaiting all comers, its seems that the heavens have literally had their say in the support of a fifth crown on hallowed grass. A blazer last year and the understated 4 swiss crosses gracing his shoe this year speak of a touch of class the all england club is more than happy to accept as its own. But youthful exuberance is always a threat, especially when its bearer is himself the king of clay - makes for an interesting season of tennis all in all! Only once the contests are all resigned to history will the true plot of how the grand story is written be revealed, but sometimes, it is far more fun to be a witness to the scripting rather than a mute spectator at an unveiling of exhibits!

Up-swing down-swing

You always hear about life and its times going in cycles... and your frame of mind follows in the ebbs and flows of their nature. The effect of the peaks and valleys is profound though and all the same makes life all the more interesting with no montony whatsoever. It is strange however as to how almost nothing in life seems to come sequentially - all we plan never actually happens "exactly" how we have visualized it in our daydreams.. there is always that slight twist to it. Whenever there is one anticipated event that we schedule towards, there are always a couple of surprise packages that turn things topsy-turvy..... how often do we hear people say "everything has cropped up all at once... i can handle one thing, but ... EVERYTHING"

.... or maybe,
.....maybe....thats just me being a procrastinater ;)

Swing Bowling

First off, let me congratulate Indian cricket's latest poster boy and fan favorite: Irfan Pathan. Taking a hat-trick in the first over of a test was worth it just for the fact that the normal sceptical indian fan is more attuned to seeing india make horrible starts rather than dish them out. That the pitch seems to get more conducive in the middle of the match and that pakistan makes hay while the sun shines is a totally different issue.
The bowler has shown the ability and the perseverence in the entire series. Not only has he stuck at his style of bowling, but then returned to bolster the lower order with sensible hitting and that certain "promise" that keeps sports fans the world over on the edges of their seats.
All that remains to be seen in this series that has swung from pillar to post is if india has the temperment to pull off a 4th innings miracle and wrest the series.
May the best team Win!!

Swinging from tree to tree

... and then the limb snaps.
Just the one you were holding onto...

And then while you lie on the ground looking up,
It decided to fall right atop of you too...

doesnt life always like to kick you when you are down? or does it just feel that way?
Well, all for all, through the ups and downs, through the highs and lows, it is an awesome experience....one heck of a roller coaster ride (it feels like i am plagiarising here although i swear I am not)

To make it short, i have no mind to do the doctoral research I signed up for , atleast not right now, and am suffering from a major dose of "PROCRASTINATION" in my post-quals period.
Is this what serious research and all that "advancement of the knowledge base of mankind" is all about or do most people settl by just "Swinging it" ????

Mood swings

do we always feel the same?
do we always feel happy, or chirpy, or down in the dumps
what are the blues?
what comes to mind with red, green, yellow or PURPLE?
do we not associate a state or reaction of the mind with everything we see, hear or sense?

we are happy at some times, and sad at the others. though we wish to be in an upbeat mood all the time, what would it mean if we did not have the rock times to compare and contrast it against?
isnt the factor of change in life, the inconsistency, the relative extremes, what makes living every moment of it al the more exciting?

too many question marks for one post i think... :)

Swing States

As the election heat peaks in the US of A, one can do naught but wonder about the fickle nature of democratic electorates. This election like many in the past is a dead heat. Given the random fluctuations of "mass popularity" i think every election is a dead heat. I feel every candidate has an equal chance of winning given which side of their bed the electorate wakes up on (or doesn't bother getting out of, given the turn out one sees nowadays)
these swings, from localities, to districts, to states can actually decide who heads the most powerful country in the world today... cool huh!
so get up and vote...and let your brain decide whose policies you like better, rather than what the media spin doctors try to spoon feed you through the idiot box
